Amanda Brugel

Pointe Claire in Montreal's West Island is a tiny quiet town. The West Island can be confusing to those unfamiliar to its significance. They often believe it's an island located to the west of Montreal However, the West Island encompasses everything between the two cities of Lachine and West. The West Island is frequently referred to as being the place of birth for Amanda Brugel but while that may be true, her time there was not long. Brugel was an aspiring young lady living in Courtice Ontario just outside Oshawa. She initially wanted to be an actor, However, following a dramatic growth spurt her partners could no longer dance with her. According to an article by Toronto Star, she revealed that she wore heels and was 6 feet 1 inch tall. After I outgrew the male counterparts, I gave up. Dancers who have been in the past often switch to acting and in the case of Brugel, it was a suggestion from her teacher of drama. Her teacher advised her to audition as Anne in the school's annual production. She tried out and ended up playing the role of the main character of Anne of Green Gables. She was given the Fine Arts Talent Scholarship to go to York University's Theatre Program which she completed in 2000 with a bachelor's degree in Fine Arts. Over the last 20 years, her work has been featured on both the large and small screen. She gained the most fame when she was offered the character of Rita in the award-winning television show The Handmaid's Tale. Brugel is the only Canadian actress in the season 1 and was only seen on occasion.
